Islamabad (GNP): Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met with Egyptian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture, food security, and modern farming techniques.
Hussain said Pakistan values its long-standing relationship with Egypt and praised the country’s progress in modern agriculture, water management, and climate-resilient farming, noting his admiration for Egypt’s success in improving agricultural productivity despite challenging conditions.
The minister specifically requested Egypt’s technical support and expertise to help improve cotton yields and quality in Pakistan, noting that Egypt’s experience with cotton varieties, seed quality, and crop management could offer valuable insights for Pakistan’s cotton industry.
He proposed stronger collaboration between agricultural research institutions in both countries, including expert exchanges, joint research trials, and shared best practices in cotton and other key crops.

Hussain also highlighted potential cooperation in areas such as water-efficient irrigation, seed development, biotechnology, climate-smart farming, mechanization, and livestock, expressing interest in benefiting from Egypt’s practical experience and technological advancements in these fields.
He noted that the government’s broader agricultural strategy is focused on boosting productivity, lowering production costs, and improving farmer incomes through modern technology and stronger research-extension linkages.
Dr. Hassan expressed Egypt’s willingness to deepen agricultural cooperation with Pakistan, noting that relevant Egyptian institutions would be encouraged to explore areas of shared interest.
He highlighted Egypt’s experience in cotton production, irrigation, and farming in water-scarce and arid environments, welcoming greater exchange between experts and research institutions from both countries.
Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and identify concrete areas of cooperation that could deliver practical benefits for farmers and support food security in both nations.
