Islamabad (GNP): Ambassador Moin ul Haque has officially assumed the role of Director-General at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), succeeding Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, whose term has concluded.
Haque brings nearly 35 years of experience in Pakistan’s Foreign Service, having held senior positions both domestically and in postings abroad. His most recent assignment was as Pakistan’s Ambassador to China from 2020 to 2023. Before that, he served as Ambassador to France between 2016 and 2020, and earlier as Consul General in Vancouver from 2007 to 2010.
Throughout his career, Haque has also held roles including Additional Secretary for Administration, Chief of Protocol, Director-General for Europe, and Director in the Foreign Secretary’s Office. His earlier diplomatic postings included assignments at Pakistan’s missions in Brussels, Colombo, and Ankara, as well as a role as Counsellor at Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
About ISSI
Founded in 1973, the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad is an independent, non-profit research organization focused on producing informed analysis of regional and global issues affecting peace, security, and development — with a particular emphasis on Pakistan’s strategic interests. The institute aims to foster deeper public understanding of major issues affecting both Pakistan and the wider international community.
As one of the earliest organizations of its kind in the country, ISSI conducts research and hosts discussions based on publicly available information and analysis. It serves as a platform for scholars, policy experts, and analysts to explore strategic and security-related issues from historical and forward-looking perspectives, and publishes a quarterly journal, Strategic Studies.
The institute regularly organizes talks and seminars featuring outside experts and maintains partnerships with similar research bodies internationally, representing Pakistan at global strategic policy conferences.
