Lahore ranks as the second most polluted city, preceded by New Delhi.

Lahore, 21 November, 2023 (GNP): The Monday morning marked the city’s status as the second most polluted globally, with an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 395. Karachi follows closely as the third most polluted city, while New Delhi claims the top spot.

Health experts strongly recommend limiting unnecessary travel and wearing of face masks when outdoors due to hazardous smog levels.

The residents of Lahore are grappling with the breathing difficulties attributed to the prevalent smog and air pollution.

In response to the escalating situation, the caretaker provincial government of the Punjab mandated the use of face masks in smog-affected districts, including Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin, for a week.

The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes the profound global impact of air pollution, leading to an annual toll of 4.2 million lives.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) levels, specifically in the 400-500 range, pose a significant and heightened threat to individuals grappling with pre-existing health conditions.

Simultaneously, levels spanning from 150-200 bring about discomfort, especially among those afflicted with asthma, lung, and heart issues.

It is crucial to note that optimal air quality, falling within the range of 0-50, is essential for overall well-being and environmental equilibrium.
