Kenzaburo Oe, writer of poetic fiction died

His company said that his family held his funeral but provided no more information regarding his passing.

Tokyo, 15 March 2023 (GNP):  The Japanese Noble Laureate for literature, Kenzaburo Oe, has passed away aged 88. His publisher, Kodansha Ltd., announced in a statement on Monday that he passed away on 3 March 2023.

His company said that his family held his funeral but provided no more information regarding his passing.

His dark poetic novels were inspired by his memories of growing up in Japan during the post-World War II occupation and by his experience as a disabled son’s parent.

Kenzaburo Oe was also a vocal opponent of nuclear weapons and a supporter of peace and was also the second Japanese novelist to receive the Nobel Prize in literature in 1994.

For his fictional works, in which “poetic energy generates an imagined world where life and myth condense to make a disquieting picture of the human dilemma today,” the author received a citation from the Swedish Academy.

The birth of Oe’s mentally handicapped kid in 1963 had a profound impact on some of his most piercing works.

‘A Personal Affair’ which is a book about a parent coming to terms with the birth of a son with brain injury, was released by Kenzaburo Oe. Hikari Oe was born with a brain abnormality that left him mentally handicapped.

He was a musical composer whose pieces have been performed and recorded on albums despite having limited speaking and reading skills.
