Joint Statement of 5th China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue

The crucial engagement between the three ministers covered wide range of topics including the counter-terrorism, trade, connectivity, and the politics. 

Islamabad, 8 May 2023, (GNP): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto of Pakistan, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang of China and the Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi of Afghanistan held the 5th China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue in Islamabad.

The three sides resolved to further deepen and expand their cooperation in the security, development and political domains based on the principles of mutual respect, equal-footed consultation and mutual benefit.

Stressing that a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan serves the common interest of the region, the Foreign Ministers underscored the critical importance of trilateral cooperation in promoting this objective.

The crucial engagement between the three ministers covered wide range of topics including the counter-terrorism, trade, connectivity, and the politics.

All three sides also agreed on solving several matters in cooperation and coordination with each other. These matters included security issues, drug smuggling, and organized crimes.

They also called on the international community to provide countries relevant countries with necessary technical assistance in this regard.

They also emphasized the importance and need of denying their territorial space to any group or an individual including the TTP and ETIM to use their territory and jeopardize the regional security.

Additionally, both Pakistan and China underlined that regional peace is entailed by the peace and stability in Afghanistan, and highlighted the need to abstain from intervening from internal affairs of Afghanistan.

Both Pakistan and China also expressed their solidarity with Afghanistan and underscored the urgent need of continued humanitarian support to people of Afghanistan. The three sided held that humanitarian support must be devoid of political considerations.
