Berlin, 3 October 2021 (TDI): Today, Germany is celebrating its 31st Unity Day and receiving wishes from across the globe.
The Federal Republic of Germany (WEST) and the German Democratic Republic (EAST) were unified on October 3, 1990.
The German Ambassador to Pakistan Bernhard Schlagheck shared an explanatory video that explains “what led to the reunification.”

Similarly, many states including the USA, Romania, Malaysia, France and many more wished Germany on its unity day.

It is pertinent to note here that this year marks the 70years of cordial relationship between Germany and Pakistan; hence Pakistan is paying special emphasis on this year’s Unity Day.

A birds-eye view over the history of Germany’s Unity Day:
Right after the Second World War; Germany was divided into four occupation zones as a result of the Postdam Agreement inked on August 1, 1945. With time, three countries collaborated dividing Germany into two zones, i.e. East and West Germany. In the same vein, an inner border (Berlin Wall) was erected that physically separated Germany in 1961. Following the developments, the Berlin wall was removed on November 9, 1989. After more than 25 years of physical separation; Germany was reunited on October 3, 1990. Since then, Germany celebrates this day as “Unity Day” and is considered a national holiday to rejoice in the moments.
