FM Bilawal performs groundbreaking of Dhabeji Special Economic Zone

150,000 employment opportunities will be created from this economic zone for the local people.

Thatta, 15 July, 2023 (GNP):  On a momentous occasion, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, marked a significant milestone by inaugurating the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone project in Thatta on Saturday.

As per the sources, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, provincial ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sharjeel Inam Memon, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, diplomats, and representatives from the federal government were also present on the occasion.

The foreign minister and Sindh chief minister jointly inaugurated the project by unveiling the plaque. Officials provided a comprehensive briefing to the PPP Chairman about the project’s manifold benefits, industrial infrastructure, sustainability, and job creation as it would generate an investment of $5 billion and generate 150,000 job opportunities for the local people.

“The Dhabeji Special Economic Zone will be a public-private partnership project which ensures the economic and social development of the country,” the foreign minister stated. He further highlighted the project’s strategic objective of establishing an interconnected network of industries in Karachi.

According to the sources, this vital project is an integral part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and was officially designated as a special economic zone by the Board of Investment on 22 June. Spreading across 1,530 acres, the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone will be executed in two phases, accommodating hundreds of industrial units, the sources said.

Implemented under a public-private partnership model, the Sindh government has facilitated the project by providing land to the esteemed contractor/developer Zahid Khan & Brothers, reported by the sources. Notably, the contractor is responsible for both the development of the zone and the payment for the land to the provincial government.

The inauguration of Dhabeji Special Economic Zone marks a momentous step towards propelling economic growth and opening up new avenues for job opportunities in the region.
