Pakistan and Iran inaugurates border marketplace

Pakistan and Iran inaugurate Mand-Pishin Border Sustenance Marketplace and the Polan-Gabd Electricity.

Islamabad, 18 May 2023 (GNP):  Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Iran’s President, Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, will come together today to jointly inaugurate the Mand-Pishin Border Sustenance Marketplace and the Polan-Gabd Electricity Transmission Line at the Mand-Pishin border crossing point.

This event marks the commencement of one of the six border markets planned along the Pakistan-Iran border. The Mand-Pishin Border Sustenance Marketplace aims to facilitate cross-border trade, stimulate economic growth, and create new opportunities for local businesses.

Additionally, the Polan-Gabd Electricity Transmission Line, which will bring in an additional 100 MW of electricity from Iran, will play a crucial role in addressing the region’s energy requirements, benefiting households and businesses.

“Pakistan and Iran share a strong bond as neighboring countries with deep religious, cultural, and linguistic connections. The governments of both nations are working closely together to enhance the welfare and socio-economic development of their respective populations.”

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed these sentiments during an exclusive interview with Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

This joint inauguration signifies the strong dedication of Pakistan and Iran to improve the well-being of residents in the neighboring provinces of Balochistan and Sistan-o-Baluchestan, respectively.

Furthermore, it represents a significant step forward in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the Polan-Gwadar electricity project, highlighting its symbolic representation of the strong friendship between Pakistan and Iran, as well as the testament to the robustness of their mutual cooperation.

The remarkable speed at which the project was completed on both sides serves as a prime example of the immense potential inherent in their bilateral collaboration.

The Prime Minister affirmed the commitment to enhance connectivity between Pakistan and Iran across various sectors. This dedication stems from the strong desire to mutually support and promote regional trade, transit, and overall connectivity.

In his statement, the Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the Governments of Iran and Saudi Arabia for the successful restoration of diplomatic relations.

He acknowledged this significant milestone as a demonstration of the visionary and forward-thinking leadership of both Iran and Saudi Arabia, with China also playing a crucial role in facilitating this development.
