Father shoots son in Peshawar for refusing to remove PTI flag

Peshawar, 25 January, 2024 (GNP): Father in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shot his son dead because the young boy refused to remove PTI’s flag from their home.

A dispute erupted when the son, who had just returned from working in Qatar, raised the flag of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party at their family home on the outskirts of Peshawar.

According to district police official Naseer Farid, the father forbade his son from flying the PTI flag at home, but the son refused to lower it, standing firm in his support for PTI.

The confrontation intensified, leading the father to shoot his 31-year-old son in a burst of rage before fleeing the house.

Unfortunately, the son succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. Authorities are actively pursuing the father, associated with the nationalist Awami National Party, known for displaying their flag in the past.

The upcoming February 8 elections in Pakistan are frequently marred by violence, with candidates facing threats of bombings and gun attacks. To enhance security measures, approximately 5,000 paramilitary Frontier Constabulary (FC) forces are set to be deployed in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, bordering Afghanistan, as outlined by Commander Moazzam Jah Ansari.

The caretaker federal cabinet recently granted approval to a proposal for the deployment of the Pakistan Army and civil armed forces’ troops. This decision aims to assist civil institutions in ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful general election. The approval occurred in a meeting of the federal cabinet led by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
