COAS visited Bannu after suicide attack on military escort

A comprehensive briefing was given to the army chief on the state of security and the ongoing operations, ISPR said.

Bannu, 2 Sep, 2023 (GNP): The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir paid a visit to Bannu on Friday, after nine courageous soldiers embraced martyrdom in a deadly suicide attack in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa district, the ISPR said.

According to the sources, a motorcycle-braced suicide attacker exploded himself near a military convoy in an area named Jani Khel, on Thursday. Five soldiers had also sustained injuries in a blast.

As per the official statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a comprehensive briefing was given to the army chief on the state of security and the ongoing operations.

The COAS visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Bannu to ask about the well-being and health condition of the wounded soldiers. He also acknowledged the high morale and resolute determination of the troops.

“Pakistan Army will continue to act as a bulwark against terrorism to safeguard the nation from this scourge,” the army chief Gen Munir commented.

Meanwhile, during his interaction with military officers and the troops positioned in the area, the COAS said, “The Army, Law Enforcement Agencies, and the Nation can never be coerced by the cowardly tactics of the Terrorists, who have a misbelief that they can challenge the iron resolve of the soldiers and writ of the State.”

Moreover, he asserted, “We have fought for long and will continue to fight the menace of Terrorism till the end. The Nation pays rich tribute to those who have laid down their lives and their sacrifices will forever be honored.”

The COAS was received by the Peshawar corps commander on his arrival, sources said.
