Islamabad, 15 Aug, 2023 (GNP): Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Pakistan’s eighth caretaker prime minister, has expedited consultations for assembling the interim cabinet, as reported by sources on Tuesday, citing informed sources.

Taking proactive steps, the caretaker PM is opting for a compact cabinet, personally reviewing potential candidates’ profiles. As per sources, this approach is rooted in his aim to minimize protocol, reflecting his commitment to prudent resource utilization and people’s welfare.

“I don’t want to put more burden on the country suffering from economic problems,” the caretaker prime minister expressed to associates, prioritizing responsible governance amid economic challenges.

In the list of potential caretaker ministers, former foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, ex-civil servant Shoaib Suddle, former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Ahsan Bhoon, former senator Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti, and acclaimed columnist Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema are being considered, sources said. Additionally, former information minister Muhammad Ali Durrani is a prospective fit for the Ministry of Information portfolio.

Previously, Kakar, a Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader, and former senator, sworn in as caretaker prime minister, entrusted with overseeing the nation until the forthcoming general elections.

Principal Secretary to Prime Minister (PSPM) Dr. Syed Tauqir Hussain Shah, former advisor to PM Ahad Cheema, and joint secretary Mohib Ali continue in their roles under the caretaker PM, sources stated. Notably, Arshad Muneer Khan’s promotion to grade-21 is coupled with his appointment as principal information officer (PIO).

Further continuity is ensured as Military Secretary (MS) to Prime Minister Brigadier Tajdeed Mumtaz maintains his administrative responsibilities.
