Bykea app hacked in Pakistan as users receive inappropriate notifications

Islamabad, 13 June, 2023, (GNP): Bykea, the popular riding app for mobility, and delivery services, experienced a security breach on Tuesday, resulting in users receiving inappropriate messages through notifications and within the app. The company promptly addressed the situation and issued an official statement apologizing to its users for the inconvenience caused.

“We sincerely apologize for the inappropriate messages sent through the Bykea app. We want to assure our users that this incident was a result of a third-party communication tool compromise,” stated the company in its official statement.

Bykea took quick action to restore the app and ensured its safety and functionality. “We are pleased to inform our users that the app has been fully restored and is now safe to use. If any user encounters any issues, we encourage them to reach out to our helpline for immediate assistance,” the statement further explained.

Rafiq Malik, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Bykea, expressed the company’s commitment to investigating the incident in collaboration with the involved vendor to determine how unauthorized access to the API occurred.

“We have taken measures to enhance security, including changing tokens and temporarily disabling certain APIs. Users can be confident that the app is secure,” assured the COO.

Bykea, available in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Wah, has a substantial user base, with over five million downloads on the Google Play Store and approximately 100,000 daily active users.
