ISLAMABAD, 14 December 2021 (GNP): Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, WADA Mitsuhiro called on the Federal Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives, Asad Umar.

During the meeting, the two discussed future investments as well as bilateral ties in diverse sectors, particularly the Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Agenda of Meeting

Welcoming the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador, Federal Minister Asad Umar highlighted that the Pakistan-based Japanese companies have established long-standing business ties with Pakistan.

Furthermore, they have positively contributed to the economic development of Pakistan through employment and considerable amounts of investment.

Asad Umar invited Japanese investors and businessmen to visit and explore investment opportunities in a multitude of fields like infrastructure development in Pakistan.

Ambassador WADA Mitsuhiro on his part expressed satisfaction upon contribution to the expansion of Japan-Pakistan relations, specifically during this crucial time. He lauded the wonderful and rich culture, history, and warm-hearted people of Pakistan.

Moreover, he stated that multiple Japanese investors are interested to invest in SEZs. However, there is a need to enable investors to invest in Pakistan. WADA Mitsuhiro affirmed that the Japanese investors will also bring their enterprises to develop partnerships with Pakistani counterparts.

In that regard, he urged the Pakistani Minister to create a favorable and liberalized tax regime. The two dignitaries concluded the meeting with the optimism that both countries will persist to collaborate as well as further reinforce the bilateral ties in the future.

Pakistan and Japan enjoy cordial bilateral ties that are mutually advantageous. The two collaborate in a wide array of fields like education, health, economy, and investment. Japan has often supported health causes in Pakistan.

Additionally, during the Covid-19 pandemic situation, Japan donated aid for Pakistan to help it in its fight against the virus. More recently, Japan donated aid to fight the crippling disease of Polio in Pakistan, by collaborating with UNICEF.
