Quality education still out of reach for millions in Pakistan

Islamabad : International Literacy Day, Sunbeams and Kitab Ghar came together to celebrate the transformative power of education by sharing the gift of books with underserved children. The heartwarming event, held at Kitab Ghar F-7, was not just a gathering, it was a powerful reminder that a single book can change a child’s future.

In an era where millions of children in Pakistan are still deprived of quality education, the collaboration between Sunbeams and Kitab Ghar became a beacon of hope. Shelves that usually serve avid readers opened their arms to children who have never owned a book of their own. For them, these books were not mere pages bound together, but treasures of possibility, sparks that can light the way toward dreams once thought unreachable.

Adding to the spirit of the day, people came forward with book donations from their own homes. What may have been sitting quietly on a shelf became a priceless gift in the hands of a child, a treasure that could make someone feel like a king. Each donated book carried not just knowledge, but love, empathy, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Speaking at the occasion, representatives from Sunbeams emphasized the importance of collective responsibility: “Every child deserves the chance to dream, to imagine, and to learn. When we place a book in a child’s hand, we place the future in their hands.”

The event witnessed emotional moments as young children, with bright eyes and hopeful smiles, received their first books. Their joy symbolized the true essence of literacy not just the ability to read, but the empowerment to rise above limitations.

The collaboration also highlighted the role of communities, book lovers, and educational champions in bridging gaps. By donating books, participants contributed to breaking the cycle of illiteracy, ensuring that education is not a privilege for the few, but a right for all.

This International Literacy Day will be remembered not only for the books shared but for the dreams it ignited. Together, Sunbeams and Kitab Ghar reaffirmed their belief that education is the greatest gift one can give and books are its most beautiful carriers.
