Federal Minister Leghari Agrees to Cut Load Shedding in KPK

Islamabad (GNP): Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has agreed to reduce load shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and extend electricity supply in areas that had faced prolonged outages. He took the decision after a high-level meeting on the province’s energy challenges, held together with the Federal Minister for Petroleum.

The meeting was attended by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, the secretaries of the Power Division and Petroleum Division, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Energy and the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In line with the Prime Minister’s vision, the aim was to improve the energy situation and give the public relief in close cooperation with the provincial administration.

Governor Kundi opened the discussion by outlining the overall energy situation in the province. He urged a meaningful cut in the duration of load shedding, particularly in high-loss and hard-hit areas.

Leghari responded by putting public relief first. As a goodwill gesture, he agreed to reduce load shedding and lengthen the hours of supply in high-loss areas that previously suffered long outages.

The federal leadership expects the public to return that goodwill. It asked people to clear their outstanding electricity dues and support efforts against power theft, so that the improved supply can continue without interruption.

Leghari also described a lasting fix. The Transformer-Based Load Management System is being rolled out across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and under this automated mechanism the practice of shutting down whole feeders will be phased out. Load management will move to individual transformers instead.

The meeting ended with an agreement between the federal government and the provincial leadership to keep working closely together. They aim to carry out the agreed roadmap on time and bring quick and lasting relief to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
