New York (GNP): Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was resentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley, in a case that helped fuel the #MeToo movement.
Weinstein, 74, was convicted of forcibly performing oral sex on Haley in 2006. She was among dozens of women who accused the former film producer of sexual misconduct.
He was originally sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2020, but the conviction was overturned on appeal in 2024. A New York jury convicted him again in 2025 following a retrial, leading to Wednesday’s resentencing.

Addressing a packed Manhattan courtroom before sentencing, Weinstein appealed for leniency, telling the court he was not a violent man.
He also apologised to those he had hurt, while continuing to maintain his innocence, a stance that prompted loud groans from the courtroom.
Weinstein appeared in a dark suit and red tie and used a wheelchair during the hearing.
He is expected to appeal both the latest conviction and sentence. His spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, confirmed after the hearing that Weinstein planned to challenge the ruling.
