New YorK (GNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its broad-based partnership with the European Union (EU) and fully implementing the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan, during meetings with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The leaders reviewed the full range of Pakistan-EU relations and expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum in high-level engagement between the two sides.
Sharif emphasized the importance of sustained leadership-level dialogue in providing greater direction and momentum to the relationship. He highlighted the significance of the GSP+ trade scheme for Pakistan’s economic development, job creation, and trade with the EU, reaffirming Pakistan’s continued commitment to engaging with the bloc under this framework.
The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments, reaffirming the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, international law, and peaceful resolution of disputes.

Sharif renewed his invitation to both EU leaders to visit Pakistan, expressing his desire to continue working closely with the European Union’s leadership to further strengthen their mutually beneficial partnership.
