New York (GNP): Chile has expressed support for the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara region, and has described the autonomy proposal put forward by Morocco in 2007 as the just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution.
This position was set out in a joint communiqué signed following talks held on Monday in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Chilean counterpart, Francisco Pérez Mackenna. The meeting was attended by the President of the Republic of Chile, José Antonio Kast.
The joint communiqué also noted that Chile intends to translate its support into concrete bilateral action, and will promote economic and trade cooperation opportunities in the Moroccan Sahara region to strengthen investment, trade, and productive development in the area.
It further stated that Chile welcomes and endorses United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797/2025, joining calls for the parties to engage in negotiations without preconditions, on the basis of Morocco’s autonomy proposal, with the aim of reaching a definitive political solution acceptable to all parties.

During the meeting, the two ministers also signed the Terms of Reference to launch negotiations on a free trade agreement between the two countries. Chile said, “The autonomy proposal represents the just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution.”
