Pakistan Develops National Digital Platform to Strengthen Business Compliance

Islamabad (GNP): Pakistan is moving forward with plans for a National Digital Compliance & Traceability Platform, aimed at simplifying business compliance processes, improving supply chain transparency, and boosting enterprise competitiveness. The platform is intended to help businesses more easily meet regulatory requirements, encourage responsible business practices, support formalization of enterprises, and adapt to shifting international market standards. Its development has progressed through national consultations led by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the National Compliance Centre (NCC) under the Ministry of Commerce.

The consultation process brought together senior officials from government bodies, employer organizations, industry representatives, and technical partners to assess the proposed platform, confirm its functional design, and discuss how it would be governed and managed institutionally. Discussions also explored ways to integrate the platform with existing national digital systems, with the goal of creating a practical, user-friendly tool that serves business needs while improving coordination among regulatory bodies.

Platform Objectives

Once launched, the platform will serve as a single digital access point for businesses to manage compliance obligations and improve traceability across supply chains. By cutting down on administrative burden and improving access to reliable compliance data, the system is expected to support more informed policymaking, greater transparency in value chains, and stronger adherence to responsible business practices.

The initiative is part of the ILO’s broader efforts to support Pakistan’s government and private sector in formalizing enterprises, improving regulatory compliance, and building more sustainable supply chains. It also aligns with Pakistan’s efforts to meet evolving international trade expectations, including requirements tied to the EU’s GSP+ trade framework and emerging global standards around digital product traceability.

ILO Country Director for Pakistan Geir Tonstol said the platform represents a meaningful step toward helping businesses manage compliance more efficiently while improving transparency and accountability throughout supply chains. He noted that by supporting enterprise formalization and more sustainable supply chain practices, the initiative would help Pakistani businesses meet international market demands while promoting decent work and sustainable economic growth. He added that the ILO was pleased to partner with the Pakistani government and national stakeholders on the project.

The consultation process reaffirmed a shared commitment among government agencies, employer groups, private sector representatives, and development partners to collaboratively build an integrated digital compliance system that supports economic growth, facilitates market access, and builds trust across supply chains.
