Islamabad (GNP): National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has praised the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, calling it a landmark diplomatic moment that secured an extension of the ceasefire between the two countries.
The Speaker extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and the staff of Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry for their roles in bringing the agreement to fruition.
Sadiq singled out the Prime Minister for particular praise, crediting Shehbaz Sharif’s diplomatic skill and steady focus on regional and global peace for the role Pakistan played as mediator — a role he said has earned the country recognition as a dependable partner in resolving conflicts and building peace. He also credited Field Marshal Asim Munir’s strategic judgment and consistent backing for helping bring the parties to the table and build consensus.
The Speaker further acknowledged US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance for their leadership and willingness to engage constructively, and extended thanks to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf for their part in pursuing dialogue toward regional and global peace.
According to Sadiq, the Islamabad MOU has brought hostilities to a halt and reopened the Strait of Hormuz to international trade, helping to resolve a crisis that had rattled regional and global economies, disrupted trade routes, unsettled energy markets, and posed a broader threat to international stability. He described the agreement as a major achievement for Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership, and said he expects it to pave the way for lasting peace, regional stability, economic recovery, and stronger international cooperation — while reaffirming that dialogue and diplomacy remain the strongest tools for resolving conflict and preventing it from escalating further.
Sadiq said Pakistan’s success in mediating the agreement reflects the country’s long-standing commitment to resolving disputes peacefully and fostering mutual respect and harmony among nations, adding that the achievement has strengthened Pakistan’s standing and credibility on the world stage.\
