Tashkent (GNP): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan has strongly condemned an attempted unmanned aerial vehicle attack directed toward the holy city of Mecca in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia and calling for restraint amid heightened regional tensions.
In its statement, Uzbekistan said that actions threatening holy sites, civilians and civilian infrastructure are unacceptable.
The ministry emphasized the importance of protecting places of religious significance and ensuring the safety and security of civilian populations amid the continuing instability in the wider Middle East.
The statement comes amid reports that Saudi Arabia intercepted a drone allegedly heading toward Mecca. Saudi authorities have attributed the attempted attack to the Houthi movement, while the Houthis have denied targeting the holy city.
Uzbekistan expressed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reiterated its position that threats against civilian areas and critical infrastructure should not contribute to further escalation in the region.
The ministry called on all sides to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could intensify existing tensions.

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry also stressed the need for strict compliance with international law, including respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states.
The position is consistent with Uzbekistan’s broader calls for restraint, diplomatic engagement and peaceful approaches to regional crises. In earlier statements, Tashkent has similarly urged parties involved in Middle Eastern tensions to pursue political and diplomatic solutions and prevent further escalation.
The ministry further called for efforts aimed at reducing tensions and preventing the conflict from spreading to additional countries and areas.
Uzbekistan said it supports initiatives designed to promote peace, security and stability across the region.
The statement also underscores the significance Uzbekistan attaches to regional stability at a time when security developments in the Middle East are affecting several countries and creating wider humanitarian, economic and security concerns.
Tashkent has repeatedly emphasized that disputes should be addressed through dialogue, mutual respect and diplomatic mechanisms rather than further military escalation.
Uzbekistan’s latest position places particular emphasis on the protection of holy sites and civilians while reaffirming established principles of international law.
By expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry called for restraint and diplomatic engagement to prevent further deterioration of the regional security environment.
The ministry concluded by reiterating its support for efforts to reduce tensions, prevent the further spread of conflict and promote peace, security and stability in the region.
