Vienna, 14 MAY 2023, (GNP): The national security adviser of President Joe Biden Jake Sullivan met with the Chinese diplomat Wang Yi in Vienna. Both sides acknowledge the need to move beyond the alleged spy balloon incident, reported the senior US official.
During the eight hours talks of over two days Jake Sullivan reportedly told Wang Yi that the administration wants to move beyond an alleged spy balloon incident that discontinued the relation between the two countries.
Chinese embassy in Washington termed their meeting as “candid, in-depth, substantive and constructive discussions.”
According to a US official, who briefed reporters on conditions of anonymity, Sullivan and Wang Yi did not discuss dates of possible rescheduling of Antony Blinken’s visit to Beijing. However, he reported that the White House is hopeful that both the countries will continue engaging diplomatically in coming months.

Affairs between the world’s two largest economies eased momentarily late last year when the American President met with the Chinese President in Indonesia: relieving some of the tension that was followed by the visit of American House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
The leader-level talks set the stage for a visit by Antony Blinken to Beijing in February for more in-depth talks.
However, Antony Blinken cancelled his the tour when the alleged Chinese’s spy balloon was shot in America.
The spy balloon was discovered traversing the sensitive military areas of the United States before being shot down by an American fighter jet off the coast of South Carolina, plunging the rivals into a diplomatic crisis.
