US acknowledges Pakistan’s major steps to counter terrorist groups

"The US remains committed to working with Pakistan to address the shared threat posed by terrorist groups throughout the region," said Miller.

Washington, 27 June, 2023 (GNP): The State Department spokesperson of the United States Matthew Miller said that the US acknowledges that Pakistan has taken some major steps to counter terrorist groups along with the accomplishment of the plans of its Financial Action Task Force, on Monday.

“This includes the arrest and conviction of Sajid Mir,” he stated in a media briefing when the reporters highlighted the criticism shown by Pakistan’s foreign ministry over June 22 US-India joint statement urging Pakistan to ensure its territory had not been used for militant attacks.

Miller further said, “The US remains committed to working with Pakistan to address the shared threat posed by terrorist groups throughout the region.”

Moreover, he expressed that the people of Pakistan had gone through the consequences of the militant attacks over the years.

Furthermore, Miller said that the US advised both Pakistan and India for maintaining the ceasefire along the Line of Control. “At the same time, however, we have also been consistent on the importance of Pakistan continuing to take steps so as to permanently dismantle all terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and various front organizations,” he added.

Miller emphasized that the US would bring up the issue regularly with Pakistani officials and “We will continue to work together to counter mutual threats as we discussed during our March 2023 CT dialogue”.

However, in response to a question, he said, “We regularly raise concerns about human rights in our conversations with the Indian officials, and you saw President Biden speak to this himself in the joint press conference that he held with Prime Minister Modi.”

Miller’s comments came into being soon after Pakistan conveyed its concerns and disappointment at the unjustified, biased and deceptive references about it in the joint statement of US-India.

Moreover, the deputy chief of mission of the USA was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Monday, and a demarche was conveyed to him regarding the US-India joint statement.

It stated that the US should refrain from issuing such statements that will eventually encourage India’s baseless and politically driven narrative against Pakistan.
