Pak Khan, US Trump to discuss various issues in Washington today

Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and United States President Donald Trump are scheduled to hold talk on strengthening Pak-US relations in a range of areas at White House in Washington on Monday.

The talks between cricketer turned politician Khan and actor turned politician Trump will mark an effort by the two leaders to reset ties between the two countries.

There are expatiations that the talks will expand bilateral cooperation on trade and investment as well as work toward peace in South Asia in general and Afghanistan in particular.

US President Trump will welcome the Prime Minister of Pakistan and his team in his Oval Office for talks which will then extend to a working luncheon to be attended by Cabinet members and senior Pentagon leaders.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan will also interact with top US lawmakers and Pakistan Caucus on the Capital Hill.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Special Assistant on Overseas Zulifqar Bukhari and Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razzaq Dawood are accompanying Imran Khan.

The visit of the prime minister is significant from many angles as Islamabad hopes to build on Washington’s acknowledgment of its key role in facilitating the Afghan peace talk. Islamabad now aims to bring bilateral cooperation to the centre stage.

Khan and Trump, during the visit, will discuss a range of issues, including counter-terrorism, defence, energy, and trade, with the goal of creating the condition for a peaceful South Asia and an enduring partnership between the two countries.

Moreover, Pakistan’s being part of the Afghan solution has been recognized internationally as the country has not only brought the Afghan Taliban to the talk table with the United State special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad but also joined calls for end to violence in Afghanistan.GNP
