Rawalpindi (GNP): A delegation from the U.S. Afghanistan War Commission, led by Co-Chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr. Colin F. Jackson, met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The delegation is conducting a review of the United States’ two-decade engagement in Afghanistan. The meeting covered matters of shared interest, including Pakistan’s role, the regional security situation, and developments in Afghanistan, with particular attention to perspectives relevant to the Commission’s ongoing work.
Field Marshal Munir presented Pakistan’s view of the security dynamics that shaped the conflict and outlined the challenges the country faced throughout the prolonged war in Afghanistan. He stressed the importance of factoring in the regional perspective and Pakistan’s own experience when evaluating the conflict’s strategic, diplomatic, and operational dimensions.

In response, the delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s long-standing role and the sacrifices it made during the Afghan conflict, and expressed appreciation for its continued contribution to regional peace and stability.
