Doha, 19 December 2022 (GNP): At Lusail Stadium, the Argentinian La Albiceleste and the French Les Bleus squared off in the FIFA World Cup championship. Argentina won the World Cup after 36 years after defeating France 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
In FIFA’s 92-year history, this final was the most exciting game. Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, and Tamim bin Al-Thani, the emir of Qatar, both attended.
Since Brazil’s triumph in 2002, South America has endured a 20-year World Cup drought. Argentina’s victory ended that. While Italy overcame France in the 2006 World Cup final, losing on penalties for the second time in five World Cups.

Match Highlights
For the first few minutes of the game, Argentina dominated. Argentina took a 1-0 lead after Messi’s penalty kick in the 23rd minute. After an incredible counterattack, Angel Di Maria increased Argentina’s advantage to 2-0 in the 36th minute.
However, Mbappe revived the game for France with one goal after another with 10 minutes left to play. His goals magnificently tie the contest.
Messi scored again in the 109th minute to look to have won the game for Argentina as the game entered extra time. But Mbappe made another attempt with a penalty kick, leveling the score at 3-3 and forcing a shootout.
Both Messi and Mbappe scored in the third-place penalty shootout of the World Cup. However, Kingsley Coman’s goal allowed France to proceed and win the World Cup.

The GOAT
At age 35, Lionel Messi won the World Cup and is a player who has a legitimate claim to being the best player ever (GOAT). Messi has finally received the well-deserved World Cup title to round off his dazzling career.
His record of triumphs is just too extensive to list them all. Messi became the first player to score in each round of the same World Cup after scoring seven goals in seven games.
His second-place finish in the scoring standings earned him the Silver Boot. The Golden Ball, given to the contest’s top player, was likewise won by Messi. He is the first player in FIFA history to have won it twice.
In the third World Cup final penalty shootout, Messi and Mbappe both scored. However, Kingsley Coman’s goal helped France win the World Cup and go to the finals.
There is little doubt that Messi’s World Cup will be remembered for a very long time, despite the fact that France performed brilliantly as the defending champions.
