Islamabad (GNP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations are not only an occasion to express gratitude for the country’s freedom.
It also an opportunity to commemorate what he described as a historic victory in the “Marka-e-Haq.”
In a message marking Youm-e-Azadi, the Information Minister said the nation had celebrated the joy of independence while also remembering the country’s success in what he described as a battle between truth and falsehood.
Tarar said the occasion carried particular significance because Pakistanis were commemorating both the country’s independence and a victory that, in his view, had strengthened national confidence and unity.
He described the event as historic and said its memory would remain a source of pride for Pakistanis.
The Minister said the victory would continue to remind the world of Pakistan’s resolve and its ability to defend its sovereignty and national interests.
Tarar has previously said that the success associated with the Marka-e-Haq was achieved on multiple fronts, including the military, diplomatic and narrative fronts.
He has also credited national unity and cohesion with playing an important role in Pakistan’s response during the confrontation with India.
Addressing a ceremony marking the first anniversary of the Marka-e-Haq in May 2026, Tarar said Pakistan’s success reflected national unity and strategic vision.
He also highlighted the role of the armed forces, the media and younger generations in presenting Pakistan’s position during the conflict.
The Information Minister has also emphasized that Pakistan’s position after the conflict remained rooted in its stated commitment to peace and dialogue.
According to Radio Pakistan, Tarar said Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire after responding to the confrontation while maintaining that the country wanted peace and dialogue.

The Independence Day message therefore linked the celebration of freedom with broader themes of national unity, sovereignty and resilience.
Tarar said the commemoration of the victory would continue to serve as a reminder of the determination demonstrated by the Pakistani nation.
Pakistan’s Independence Day is observed annually on August 14 to commemorate the country’s independence in 1947.
In recent years, official Independence Day messaging has increasingly incorporated references to national defence, unity and the sacrifices made to protect the country.
Tarar’s remarks also build on his earlier Independence Day statements in which he described the celebration as an opportunity to honour both Pakistan’s independence and the country’s claimed victory in the Marka-e-Haq.
In August 2025, he said the dual commemoration represented a message of national resilience and the ability of Pakistanis to protect their independence.
The Minister’s latest message reaffirmed the government’s emphasis on national pride and collective resolve while commemorating Independence Day.
He said the historic nature of the victory would remain part of Pakistan’s national memory and continue to inspire future generations.
The occasion was marked across Pakistan with national celebrations, reflecting the country’s longstanding tradition of commemorating independence through flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic events and tributes to those who contributed to the country’s freedom and security.
