Shoaib Akhtar secures stay order against unauthorized biopic ‘Rawalpindi Express’

Any person involved in the project should know that it's completely illegal and they will be responsible for any reputational loss, said Akhtar.

Islamabad, 4 July, 2023 (GNP): Former national fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has obtained a stay order against the film ‘Rawalpindi Express’ based on his life. In a tweet, Akhtar revealed that despite terminating the contract for the film, he was being threatened by certain individuals to proceed with its production.

Concerned about his rights, Akhtar took legal action to secure the stay order. It should be noted that earlier this year, Akhtar had already made it clear that he would not be involved in the biopic and warned the filmmakers against proceeding without his permission.

Also, he shared the news of the stay order in his tweet, emphasizing his stance on the unauthorized biopic.

Moreover, A notice from Akhtar’s lawyer provides further clarity on the matter. The notice states that the court, through its order dated 22 June, 2023, has restrained the producer of the biopic, titled Rawalpindi Express, from shooting, filming, and releasing any part of the film to any media platform, including social media and cinema, until a final decision is reached in the ongoing legal battle.

Furthermore, Akhtar said he has formally and legally left the project and will hit back if the filmmakers decide to go ahead without his approval. “I have left the project after complying with all legal protocols of revoking the rights to the story of my life. Severe legal action will be taken if the makers continue to make biography film and use my name or life story events in any way,” he added.
