SDGs Investment Fair links Pakistan’s priorities with investors

Karachi (GNP): The National Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Investment Fair wrapped up in Karachi today. It drew federal and provincial governments, local and foreign investors, financial institutions and development partners, all looking at investment routes that could move Pakistan’s SDG agenda forward.

The two-day event was jointly convened by UNDP and the Government of Pakistan under the SDGs Plus Programme. It presented 35 SDG-aligned public-private partnership projects, with a combined value of roughly US$26 billion, to prospective investors.

The Fair ended with the signing of a Letter of Intent between a private-sector partner of the government and an investor for a $40 million tourism project.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, speaking online as chief guest at the Fair, titled “Investing in Pakistan’s Sustainable Future” and organised by UNDP Pakistan, named population growth and climate change as two major challenges that need steady, long-term national focus.

He also drew attention to Pakistan’s involvement in the COP31 Climate Implementation Bridge initiative, developed with UNDP to link climate goals with finance through investment-ready projects.

Aurangzeb emphasised the need for capacity building and for closer collaboration among federal and provincial governments and the private sector.
