Saudi Arabia and UAE gear up to invest in Pakistan

UAE and Saudi Arabia have shown keen interest in Pakistan's IT, agriculture, and mining sectors.

Islamabad, 3 July, 2023 (GNP): Dr. Musadik Malik, the Minister of State for Petroleum announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are willing to gear up investments in Pakistan.

Both UAE and Saudi Arabia have shown keen interest in Pakistan’s burgeoning information technology (IT), agriculture, and mining sectors.

Recently in an interview with the private channel, Musaddik Malik revealed that Saudi Arabia is set to allocate $24 billion for investment purposes. While the UAE has earmarked $22 billion to explore opportunities in these three crucial sectors.

Such substantial investments will not only revolutionize Pakistan’s economy but will also open numerous job opportunities for the youth, he added.

While appreciating Pakistani youth, Dr. Malik stated “Our young people knowing advanced technology are fully capable to show the world their skills,” he said. “We are hopeful to bring business opportunities here in this country.”

Moreover, he said the government has established committees dedicated to providing one-window operations, to facilitate the investors.

Addressing concerns about the upcoming general elections, Dr. Malik clarified that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan to lead the election campaign after the Election Commission of Pakistan announces the date.

With the government’s tenure set to end in mid-August, the caretaker administration will promptly invite the Election Commission to declare the election schedule.

Dr Malik said that the Election Commission is responsible to conduct the next elections transparently. “The PML-N under the guidance of Nawaz Sharif will sweep the general elections,” he added.

While addressing gas and electricity load shedding, the government has issued directives to ensure delivery of gas for cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner without interruption, he stated.

Meanwhile, discussions with Azerbaijan are underway to secure LNG cargo for Pakistan before the onset of winter, ensuring a stable energy supply for the country.

About the IMF deal, he said the nine-month relief agreement is underway to deal with Pakistan’s economic affairs effectively.

Dr. Malik expressed his optimism that the significant investments from the Gulf region would stimulate business activities, and open up new employment avenues in Pakistan.
