Zaporizhzhia, 11 Aug, 2023 (GNP): A Russian missile attacked a hotel situated in the center of the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia on Thursday, which took one life and injured around 16 individuals, according to Ukrainian officials.

The national police of Ukraine said that the missile, recognized as an Iskander, hit Zaporizhzhia at 7:20 p.m. local time (1620 GMT), resulting in devastating damage. The affected city has been constantly going through Russian shelling and the recent strike of a missile marks another heart-wrenching experience.

Moreover, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed distress over the recent episode of violence and stated, “Zaporizhzhia. The city suffers daily from Russian shelling. A fire broke out in a civilian building after the occupiers hit it with a missile.”

Furthermore, the Governor of Zaporizhzhia Yuriy Malashko shared details of the injured locals, disclosing that there were four children among the 16 severely wounded persons.

The name of the concerned hotel is Reikartz Hotel, located in the heart of a city beside the banks of the Dnipro River. Surprisingly, this hotel had preferably been a key accommodation choice for United Nations staff during their work in Zaporizhzhia.

The humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine, Denise Brown put her agony into words in an email statement that said, “I am appalled by the news that a hotel frequently used by United Nations personnel and our colleagues from NGOs supporting people affected by the war has been hit by a Russian strike in Zaporizhzhia shortly ago. I have stayed in this hotel every single time I visited Zaporizhzhia.”

However, this is not the first violent incident in Zaporizhzhia, hardly a day earlier, the city had gone through another missile attack which caused the demise of two ladies and a man along with injuring nine others.

This rapidly worsening situation needs immediate international attention and strict action to address the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and its disastrous consequences on innocent lives.
