Rishi Sunak welcomed President Zelensky

The visit was part of a tour of several key European allies by Zelensky.

Buckinghamshire, 16 May 2023, (GNP): British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to his country house in Buckinghamshire on Monday to discuss more support for Kyiv as it fends off Russia’s invasion.

The visit was part of a tour of several key European allies by Zelensky, who also met with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor, Italian Prime Minister and Pope Francis in the past few days.

Rishi Sunak reaffirmed his support for Ukraine and announced further military aid, including hundreds of air defense missiles and long-range attack drones.

He also gave Zelensky an unusual gift: a spent bullet casing from the 62-gun salute from the Tower of London following the Queen’s death.

Sunak said the UK was “sustaining” its support for Ukraine, which has been facing a “terrible war of aggression” by Russia for over a year.

Furthermore, he also said that its in the interest of the international community to ensure Ukraine’s success and Putin’s “barbarism” was not rewarded.

Zelensky thanked Sunak for his friendship and solidarity. Zelensky is said to have discussed “very important issues, urgent support for Ukraine” and the security of Europe.

Moreover, the two leaders also posed for a photo in front of a portrait of Churchill at Sunak’s residence.
