Railway interlink route among Pak-Afghan-Uzbek finalized

The link will take the route from Termez to Mazar-e-Sharif, Logar and Kharlachi.

Islamabad, 18 July, 2023 (GNP): The Railway officials from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have finalized the roadmap for interlink railway track of tri-nation intended to facilitate regional transit and bilateral trade among the participating countries on Monday, according to the sources.

The Joint Working Group (JWG) on this project mutually decided the joint protocols in its meeting at the ministry of railways. The joint protocols will officially be signed at a special ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday.

However, the purpose of the tri-nation project is to build up a rail link which connects Uzbekistan Railways with the Pakistan Railways via Afghanistan. The link will take the route from Termez to Mazar-e-Sharif, Logar and Kharlachi, said a press release.

Moreover, the railway project of Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) will work for both passengers and consignment services. The said route will not only facilitate regional, transit, and bilateral trade but will also come up with better connectivity to the citizens across the region.

The Chairman of Pakistan Railways Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, Director General of Afghanistan Railway Authority Bakhtur Rehman Sharaft and the Investment Ministry head of Uzbekistan Dekhkanov Davron Tulkunovich were present at the JWG.

Furthermore, the participating countries assented on a layout for technical matters, sources of financing and other key aspects for early implementation of the project. They highly appreciated the professional work of the three railway experts.
