President, PM Honor Lalak Jan on Martyrdom Anniversary

Islamabad (GNP):- Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said the courage and sacrifice shown by Havaldar Lalak Jan in defending the country during the Kargil conflict remain a source of pride for the entire nation. He noted that Lalak Jan’s refusal to retreat even after suffering serious injuries stood as proof of his exceptional patriotism, adding that the nation would always remember his sacrifice, along with that of every other martyr who has served Pakistan.

President Asif Ali Zardari similarly stated that the sacrifices made by the country’s martyrs serve as the foundation for a secure and dignified future for Pakistan. He described Havaldar Lalak Jan as an outstanding example of courage, resolve, and commitment to duty in defense of the homeland, saying that such sacrifices underpin Pakistan’s security, sovereignty, and national honor — something the country would continue to hold in deep respect.

Marking the occasion, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, and the Pakistan Armed Forces jointly paid tribute to Lalak Jan on his martyrdom anniversary, honoring his bravery, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil war.

On this date in 1999, Havaldar Lalak Jan displayed remarkable bravery and resolve while holding his position under sustained enemy fire. Even after being critically wounded, he declined to be evacuated and continued leading his men with unwavering determination until he was martyred in the line of duty. His sacrifice remains a lasting symbol of courage, resilience, and selfless dedication to service.

The Armed Forces and the nation continue to honor his legacy with deep respect and gratitude, noting that his life and sacrifice continue to serve as an inspiration for current and future generations to uphold values of duty, honor, and patriotism. Both the public and the military reaffirmed their continued commitment to safeguarding the legacy of Pakistan’s martyrs and to defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity with the same spirit of courage and dedication that he embodied.
