Pakistan’s Inflation Crisis: Lahore Faces Flour Shortage

Lahore experiences flour shortage while prices of sugar, ghee increase by 25% to 62%.

Islamabad, 6 January 2023 (GNP): According to reports, Flour, which is Pakistan’s staple food is no longer available in Lahore. Prices of flour have soared in the metropolis with shops reporting zero stock of the commodity across the city.

According to stats, a 15kg flour bag costs Rs. 2,050 after an increase of Rs 300 in two weeks. Aside from this, flour prices have been hiked in Pakistan’s capital cities Islamabad and, Rawalpindi within a span of only two days.

According to media sources, the sudden increase in prices of flour is due to the mismanagement between the food department and flour mills. The Chief Secretary of Punjab has taken notice of the flour crisis and plans to resolve it soon.

On the other hand, the federal government hiked the prices of wheat flour, sugar, and ghee by 25 percent to 62 percent for sale through the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) with immediate effect to reduce the impact of untargeted subsidies.
