Pakistani envoy urges USA to balance ties in South Asia

Washington, 8 June 2024, (GNP): The Pakistani Ambassador to the United States (US) , Masood Khan, emphasized the importance of Washington maintaining a strategic equilibrium in its relationships with South Asian nations.

Khan observed that the United States’ excessive alignment with India contradicted the traditional policy of maintaining a strategic balance in its relationships with South Asian countries. He emphasized that restoring this balance would enhance peace and security in the region.

Ambassador Khan shared these insights during a conversation with Tim Horgan from the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire on the “Global in the Granite State” podcast.

He emphasized Pakistan’s desire to maintain its independent stance in its relationship with the United States, particularly focusing on economic and defense cooperation.

Regarding India, Khan suggested that India should prioritize fostering peaceful relations with its neighbors, advocating for investments in economic connectivity to enhance regional progress.

These remarks come amidst India’s government formation process following the recent elections, where the BJP fell short of a majority but nominated Narendra Modi for a third consecutive term as prime minister.

On the topic of US-China relations, Ambassador Khan commended the United States’ cautious and wise management of the relationship, noting recent visits as laying the groundwork for collaboration rather than confrontation.
