Pakistan-US Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Peace

Islamabad (GNP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a meeting with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker in Islamabad on Friday, with discussions focusing on Pakistan-U.S. bilateral cooperation and recent regional developments.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to review the current trajectory of bilateral relations and exchange views on developments affecting regional peace and stability.

The deputy prime minister and foreign minister also stressed the importance of implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of June 18 in letter and spirit, describing its full implementation as the way forward.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and security while emphasizing the need to safeguard the country’s national interests.

The discussion comes at a time when Pakistan is seeking to strengthen diplomatic engagement with major international partners while navigating a complex regional environment.

Islamabad has increasingly emphasized dialogue, diplomatic engagement and peaceful resolution as key elements of its foreign-policy approach.

For Pakistan, maintaining constructive relations with Washington remains important across several areas, including regional security, economic engagement and diplomatic cooperation.

The two countries have also maintained regular high-level contacts on regional developments and broader bilateral issues.

The meeting also highlighted the continuing diplomatic role of Pakistan in regional affairs.

Islamabad has in recent months sought to position itself as a constructive interlocutor on regional tensions, including through engagement with different international stakeholders.

Earlier in 2026, Pakistani and U.S. officials also discussed efforts related to diplomacy between Washington and Tehran.

Baker, meanwhile, appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.

She also conveyed her felicitations to Dar on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day.

The exchange reflects continued diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Washington at a time when regional security challenges require sustained communication between states.

The meeting also demonstrates the importance of maintaining open diplomatic channels between Pakistan and the United States.

While both countries may have differences on certain regional and international issues, continued dialogue provides an avenue for addressing areas of mutual concern and identifying opportunities for cooperation.

Pakistan’s emphasis on diplomacy also reflects its broader interest in contributing to regional stability while protecting its national priorities.

For Washington, engagement with Islamabad remains relevant to developments in South Asia and the wider region.

The latest meeting therefore signals an effort to maintain momentum in Pakistan-U.S. bilateral relations, with both sides continuing to engage on cooperation, regional developments and the pursuit of peace and stability.
