Pakistan expects MBS stopover

Nothing is official yet but there are signals that the Saudi crown prince may travel to Pakistan during his visit to India, the sources said.

Islamabad, 5 September, 2023(GNP): Pakistan is impelling the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit, who is travelling to India to attend the G-20 summit later this week.

However, the Foreign Office showed complete silence regarding this possible stopover by the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia as he is scheduled to fly to New Delhi.

On the other hand, the sources at the Prime Minister Office have not completely denied the possibility of Saudi crown prince’s visit.

One of the source at the PMO stated, “Nothing is official yet but there are signals that the Saudi crown prince may travel to Pakistan during his visit to India.”

Moreover, the sources said that there was a probability that both countries wanted to keep the visit secret till the eleventh hour which is why there have been no words of confirmation from either side.

Furthermore, if this important visit gets finalized it would only be for a few hours, the sources asserted.

Pakistan is eager to welcome the Saudi crown prince in Islamabad, even for a few hours, just to escape an expected public backlash.

Several countries, specifically the big powers of the globe, have independent relations with Pakistan and India in recent years, except Saudi Arabia which maintains equity in its ties with the two nuclear states.

The Saudi crown prince previously went to India in February 2019, he also came to Pakistan at that time.

The governmental officials are very well aware of the fact that if the crown prince does not make a landing in Pakistan before going to India it would undoubtedly invite huge criticism from the public.

The Saudi de-facto is flying to India not only to attend the G20 summit, but there is also a plan to stay back in Delhi, a day more on a state visit.
