Shenyang, China GNP: A new chapter in Pakistan-China cooperation in science, technology, and higher education began with the inauguration of the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre at Shenyang University of Chemical Technology (SYUCT) in Liaoning Province, China.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, alongside Prof. Xu Guangwen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Liaoning Provincial People’s Congress, and Prof. Qin Gaowu, President of SYUCT.

The establishment of the Centre marks a significant milestone in bilateral collaboration in research, innovation, and academic exchange, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

The initiative was launched last year through the joint efforts of the Liaoning provincial leadership and Ambassador Khalil Hashmi. Following the signing of a Document of Understanding between the Embassy of Pakistan and SYUCT in June 2025, the university entered into cooperation agreements with three leading Pakistani institutions the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad; NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi; and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar.

These agreements provide a framework for academic, scientific, and technological collaboration, including joint research projects, faculty exchanges, and innovation-driven partnerships.

Addressing the ceremony, President Qin Gaowu highlighted the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China and described the Centre as the first China-Pakistan joint research platform established at a local Chinese university. He expressed confidence that the initiative would promote scientific innovation, talent development, and people-to-people exchanges while contributing to sustainable development in both countries.

In his remarks, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi praised SYUCT’s achievements in research and innovation, particularly its advancements in green technologies and success in the Dual Carbon Competition 2025. He emphasized that the Centre would serve as a bridge connecting academia, industry, and technology sectors, facilitating knowledge-sharing, skills development, and collaborative research.

Reaffirming the Embassy’s full support for the initiative, the Ambassador underscored Pakistan’s commitment to deepening scientific, educational, and technological cooperation with SYUCT, Shenyang City, and Liaoning Province.

The launch of the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre is expected to strengthen bilateral ties in research and innovation, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to advancing scientific excellence and sustainable development.

The ceremony was also attended by leaders and representatives of the Pakistani partner universities, university faculty members, and international students, including four students from Pakistan.
