Pakistan beat West Indies by 8 wickets in 2nd Test

Port of Spain (GNP): Pakistan defeated West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test of a two-match series at Port of Spain, leveling the series 1-1 with a strong all-round performance on day four at Queen’s Park Oval.

Abdullah Shafique was named Player of the Match, while Babar Azam earned Player of the Series honors.

Chase Details

Chasing a target of just 75 after bowling West Indies out for 117 in their second innings, Pakistan completed the chase in 23.3 overs, losing only two wickets along the way. Shafique, who had earlier been named player of the match for an unbeaten 160 in the first innings, finished the chase not out on 24, alongside captain Babar Azam, who also remained unbeaten on 24.

West Indies’ Second Innings Collapse

West Indies resumed their second innings on the fourth morning at 103 for six, holding a lead of just 60 runs. Pakistan’s bowlers wrapped up the innings quickly, needing only 5.2 overs to take the remaining four wickets and dismiss the hosts for 117 in 46.1 overs.

Ali Usman and Sajid Khan combined for eight wickets in the innings, with Ali finishing figures of 4 for 39 off 19.1 overs and Sajid taking 4 for 32 from 12 overs. Mohammad Ali dismissed Justin Greaves early, while Ali Usman later removed Kemar Roach and Shamar Joseph to seal the collapse. Brandon King was unable to bat due to injury.

Pakistan’s Run Chase

In their chase, Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq early for nine, caught off Jayden Seales. Azan Awais added 18 before being bowled by Joseph, leaving Pakistan at 42 for two. Shafique and Babar then steadied the innings with an unbroken 35-run partnership to guide Pakistan home, with Babar finishing strongly, hitting two fours and two sixes in a 30-ball knock as Pakistan reached 77 for two.

Pakistan’s victory was built on the foundation laid by Shafique’s outstanding first-innings performance, in which he scored an unbeaten 160 off 323 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes. His contributions across both innings — 160 not out and 24 not out — earned him the player-of-the-match award and helped secure Pakistan a series-leveling win.
