Pakistan Reviews Preparations for 2027 SCO Summit in Islamabad

Islamabad (GNP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting on preparations for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit to be hosted by Pakistan in 2027, with a focus on ensuring timely completion of development, infrastructure and logistical arrangements.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) briefed the participants on the progress of various development and infrastructure projects being undertaken as part of preparations for the upcoming SCO proceedings.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan is fully committed to successfully hosting the SCO meetings and ensuring arrangements of the highest standards.

He stressed the importance of close coordination among all concerned institutions to ensure that the proceedings are conducted smoothly and efficiently.

The meeting forms part of Pakistan’s broader preparations ahead of its upcoming leadership role within the SCO.

Pakistan is scheduled to assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State in September 2026 and will host the organisation’s Heads of State Summit in 2027.

Pakistan has previously hosted major SCO meetings in Islamabad, including the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in October 2024.

The country has also reaffirmed its intention to use its chairmanship to promote regional connectivity, economic cooperation, development and multilateral engagement.

The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch, Interior Secretary Ahmad Raza Sarwar, Chairman CDA, the National Coordinator for the SCO and other senior officials from the concerned ministries and institutions.

The participants reviewed the progress of preparations and emphasized continued institutional coordination to ensure that Pakistan is fully prepared to host the 2027 SCO Summit successfully.

The government has reiterated that hosting the summit will be an important opportunity for Pakistan to strengthen its engagement with SCO member states and contribute to regional cooperation and connectivity.
