Pak-Denmark focused on strengthening ties for shared sustainable progress

Islamabad (GNP): Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Pakistan, Maja Mortensen, and engaged in a productive and forward-looking exchange of views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to reaffirm the strong and friendly relationship between Pakistan and Denmark and to explore ways to deepen further bilateral cooperation in areas that are increasingly important for sustainable and inclusive development.

Our discussions reflected the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening ties based on mutual respect, partnership, and a common vision for progress and prosperity. We reviewed the positive trajectory of Pakistan–Denmark relations and acknowledged the importance of continued engagement at both governmental and institutional levels to advance common objectives and address emerging global challenges.

A significant focus of our conversation was on sustainable development and green growth, areas in which Denmark has established itself as a global leader and from which Pakistan can benefit through enhanced cooperation and knowledge sharing.

discussed opportunities to work together on initiatives that support environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, and climate-smart development. In particular, we explored prospects for collaboration in renewable energy, including wind, solar, and other clean energy technologies that can contribute to Pakistan’s energy transition and long-term energy security. Strengthening cooperation in these sectors has the potential not only to support environmental goals but also to create new economic opportunities, attract investment, and generate employment.

also exchanged views on the importance of climate resilience and adaptation strategies, recognizing that climate change remains one of the most pressing challenges facing the international community and requires collective action and innovative solutions.

The discussion further highlighted the value of cooperation in innovation, technology, education, and human capital development. We recognized that knowledge exchange, research partnerships, academic collaboration, and skills development can play a transformative role in fostering sustainable growth and strengthening people-to-people connections between Pakistan and Denmark.

Expanding educational opportunities and encouraging collaboration between academic institutions, research centers, and private-sector stakeholders can help equip future generations with the tools and expertise needed to address complex global challenges. We also explored ways to promote innovation-driven economic growth by encouraging partnerships in technology, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation, areas that hold significant potential for strengthening economic ties and creating shared benefits for both countries.

Economic cooperation and trade also featured prominently in our discussions. We noted the opportunities to expand bilateral economic engagement through increased trade, investment, and business-to-business collaboration. Strengthening economic linkages can contribute to greater prosperity for both nations while supporting broader development objectives. I appreciated Denmark’s longstanding partnership with Pakistan and its continued support in various sectors that contribute to social and economic progress.

Denmark’s expertise, innovation, and commitment to sustainable development provide valuable opportunities for collaboration that can further enhance bilateral relations and deliver tangible benefits to our peoples. We discussed the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and fostering an enabling environment for greater cooperation across diverse sectors, including industry, agriculture, energy, education, and technology.

I conveyed Pakistan’s strong commitment to further strengthening its partnership with Denmark and building on the solid foundation of friendship and cooperation that has developed over the years. Our discussion underscored the shared values and common aspirations that unite our two countries, including a commitment to sustainable development, economic growth, environmental stewardship, and international cooperation.

Through continued partnership, mutual understanding, and sustained engagement, Pakistan and Denmark can further strengthen their relationship and contribute to the shared prosperity, well-being, and sustainable future of our peoples in the years ahead.
