Pak-China to continue safeguarding collective interests, said COAS

PLA and Pakistan Army are "brothers in arms" dedicated to safeguarding shared interests, said Gen Munir.

Rawalpindi, 2 Aug, 2023 (GNP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir hailed the Pakistan-China ties as “unique” during a ceremony held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) to commemorate the 96th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China, ISPR said in a statement.

The event showcased the strong bond between the two nations and their militaries in safeguarding collective interests.

As a chief guest, General Munir emphasized the resilience of the Pakistan-China relationship, which has overcome various challenges. He expressed the deep camaraderie between the PLA and Pakistan Army, affirming that they are “brothers in arms” dedicated to safeguarding shared interests.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Pang Chunxue, along with Major General Wang Zhong and other Chinese officials, attended the event.

The Chinese diplomat expressed gratitude for commemorating the 96th anniversary of the PLA’s founding, underscoring the “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership” between China and Pakistan.

Highlighting the significance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Chinese dignitary termed it an essential project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The CPEC has significantly improved the lives of the people of Pakistan and exemplifies the enduring support of China for Pakistan, as reiterated by President Xi Jinping.

During Vice Premier He Lifeng’s recent visit to Islamabad to celebrate the 10th anniversary of CPEC, both nations signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation. This event, along with successful exchanges of military leaders, further deepens the ties between the two militaries.

The COAS lauded the PLA’s crucial role in China’s defense, security, and nation-building, emphasizing the strength of their partnership.

With the two countries entering the second phase of CPEC, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that this milestone would foster investment, progress, and prosperity, not only for Pakistan but also for the entire region.
