Washington (GNP): Rapper Nicki Minaj has become an unexpected name in the race to be the next White House press secretary. Prediction markets, however, give her very little chance of getting the job.
The speculation began after White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted a video of Minaj on X, filmed aboard Air Force One. He wrote that the White House might have found its new press secretary. The remark appeared to be a joke, but it spread quickly online.
The timing explains why it gained traction. The post-holder’s seat is empty after Katie Zacharia left the role following just five days in the job. Her brief tenure drew heavy scrutiny and ridicule online, including questions about her credentials.
Minaj’s own odds are low. On the prediction platform Polymarket, her chance fell to 2 per cent on Tuesday from 8 per cent a day earlier. Kalshi, another platform, put her at around 3 to 4 per cent, according to different reports.
Others are far ahead of her. Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly was reported at about 20 per cent, and political commentator Scott Jennings also rated above Minaj. Her odds were similar to those of Maria Bartiromo, Elizabeth Pipko and Lara Trump.

The buzz also follows Minaj’s visible support for President Donald Trump. She joined him at a rally in Michigan, where he acknowledged her and invited her on stage. She told the crowd that he had changed the energy of the country and said she would back him again if he ran for another term.
She has also visited the White House before. In July, Trump described her as a great friend. Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz added to the online chatter by asking her fans for their views on the idea.
Social media reaction was mixed. Many users mocked the suggestion, and some pointed out that Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, was born in Trinidad. The White House has made no official announcement.
For now, the odds reflect market speculation, not confirmation. Minaj remains an outside bet, and the job is still open. At the Michigan rally, she told Trump, “It is an honour to stand with you every single time.”
