NAB takes Fawad Chaudhry into custody amidst allegations

Islamabad, 18 December, 2023 (GNP): Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has been arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with a corruption case, as per sources.

NAB Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt signed an arrest warrant for Chaudhry, leading to his custody from Adiala jail, where he was detained in a fraud case.

The warrant specifies that the former information minister was arrested in connection with a corruption case and is slated to be presented before a court.

Fawad Chaudhry was apprehended from his residence in Islamabad on November 4 (Saturday) following a complaint filed at Islamabad’s Aabpara Police Station, accusing him of accepting a Rs5 million bribe in exchange for a job.

In January, Fawad faced arrest at his residence for making public “threats” against the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during a media talk outside former PTI chief Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park. Despite the arrest, the then-coalition government disclaimed any involvement in the politician’s apprehension.

The former federal minister, along with thousands of party workers and leaders, was also detained as part of the crackdown on the PTI since May 9, linked to the party’s alleged role in the protest that resulted in at least eight deaths and numerous injuries.
