Kim Jong Un replaced military’s top general and ordered war preparations

Kim also aims to boost the capability of weapons production.

Seoul, 10 Aug, 2023 (GNP): The supreme leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un dismissed the top general of the military and called for extra preparations for the chances of combat, an increase in arms production, and an enlargement of military exercises, sources said on Thursday.

Reportedly, Kim remarked this at a meeting of the Central Military Commission which was held primarily to discuss strategies for countermeasures to deter the enemies of North Korea without taking name of them.

The country’s top general, Chief of the General Staff Pak Su Il was “dismissed.” He performed his duties for around seven months. The reason for his dismissal has not been revealed yet.

Pak was succeeded by General Ri Yong Gil, who previously served as the defense minister of North Korea, as well as the top commander of its conventional troops. Furthermore, Ri has also held the position of army chief of staff in the past.

Moreover, the sources said that Kim also aims to boost the capability of weapons production. In the previous week, he paid visits to the weapons factories where he asked for more missile engines, artillery, and other weapons to be manufactured.

However, the United States of America has blamed North Korea for supplying weapons to Russia for helping it in the war with Ukraine, along with artillery shells, rockets, and missiles. Both North Korea and Russia have turned down all the accusations of the USA.

Furthermore, Kim also ordered the military to carry out drills with the country’s advanced weapons and equipment to keep its forces prepared for war.

On 9 September, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Day of the Foundation of the Republic, North Korea is planning a military parade. North Korea has a wide range of paramilitary groups which it uses to reinforce its armed forces.

The military drills of North Korea and the USA are scheduled to be held between 21 and 24 Aug, which the North considers as a risk to its security.
