Indians overjoyed as two films win at Oscars

The fast-paced song received a standing ovation when it was performed at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday night.

Los Angeles, 14 March 2023 (GNP): On Monday, the nation of India exploded in joy when ‘Naatu Naatu’, the smash hit from the action film ‘RRR’, won the Academy Award for best original song, becoming the first film from the nation to do so.

The fast-paced song received a standing ovation when it was performed at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday night. It has millions of views on YouTube, fans all over the world, and a TikTok challenge.

Indians had previously won Oscars, but an Indian film hadn’t before Sunday night in Los Angeles. In the same evening, ‘RRR’ and ‘The Elephant Whisperers,’ which won best documentary short film, brought the nation two Oscar victories.

The Twitter account for ‘RRR’ posted: “No words can describe this surreal moment. Dedicating this to all our amazing fans across the world. THANK YOU!!”

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi also congratulated the team behind the song as he posted on Twitter writing: “The popularity of ‘Naatu Naatu’ is global. It will be a song that will be remembered for years to come.”

One of the singers of ‘Naatu Naatu’ named Prudhvi Chandra, remarked when asked by Indian media about the song’s success at the Oscars: “Entire India is proud. They have brought India to the world stage.”
