Abu Dhabi to launch Tesla as taxis

The addition of Teslas to the taxi fleet will support the emirate's "Green Economy for Sustainable Development" initiative.

Abu Dhabi, 14 March 2023 (GNP): Abu Dhabi’s taxi fleet has recently undergone an eco-friendly overhaul, and Tesla electric cars are now a part of it.

A handful of Tesla vehicles will be joining the emirate’s fleet, according to an announcement made on Thursday by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), which is working to support the nation’s environmental protection efforts and help it meet its sustainable development targets.

Unfortunately, the administration omitted to disclose the anticipated number of Tesla cabs on the roadways.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has set a goal of converting all of its taxi fleet to environmentally friendly vehicles by the year 2027. Currently, nearly 50% of the emirate’s taxis are hybrid or electric cars.

Sheikh Sultan Majid Hamad Al Qasimi, managing director of Arabia Taxi Transportation, said: “There is no doubt that this step will appeal to the public among taxi users in the Abu Dhabi, as it contributes to improving the quality of services provided to them, enhances their satisfaction, and achieves high indicators of happiness for the users of those vehicles.”

The addition of Teslas to the fleet, according to Abdullah Al Marzouqi, director-general of the ITC, which is a division of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi, will support the emirate’s “Green Economy for Sustainable Development” initiative by improving energy efficiency, lowering carbon emissions, and boosting customer satisfaction.

The introduction of Tesla vehicles was announced as the ITC held workshops, events, and interactive activities across Abu Dhabi from March 8 to 17. The goal, according to the ITC, is to strengthen interactions between the ITC and various segments of society, as well as to raise awareness about its services.
