Florida,20 December, 2023 (GNP): COAS General Asim Munir met with General Michael Erik Kurilla, a commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), as part of his official visit to the country, as reported by the military’s media wing on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief visited the US Headquarters Central Command in Tampa Bay, Florida.
The meeting focused on matters of shared interests, with a particular emphasis on cooperation in regional security matters.
The ISPR stated that both sides engaged in discussions about avenues for joint training and emphasized the necessity to enhance training interactions between CENTCOM and the Pakistan Army. Additionally, General Munir visited the CENTCOM Joint Operations Center during his visit.

During the visit, the army chief, General Asim Munir, conducted meetings with key US officials, including Secretary of State Antony J Blinken, Secretary of Defense General (Retd) Lloyd J Austin, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer, and Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q Brown.
During the meetings, Pakistan and the US reached an agreement to strengthen cooperation on issues pertaining to counter-terrorism and defense collaboration, as stated by the ISPR.
In response to a query about General Munir’s ongoing visit to the US, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller mentioned on Monday that the army chief had met several senior officials at the State Department and Pentagon.
Miller highlighted that Pakistan holds a significant status as a major non-NATO ally of the United States and is also a NATO partner. He expressed anticipation for continued collaboration with Pakistan on regional security and defense cooperation.
