Laura Gallacher Defends Russell Brand at Rape Trial

London (GNP): Laura Gallacher, the wife of British comedian and actor Russell Brand, has told a London court that her husband found monogamy “difficult” but went on to become an “amazing” husband.

She gave evidence on Thursday as a character witness at his trial on seven counts of rape, sexual assault and attempted indecent assault. Brand watched from the dock as she was questioned by his lawyer and then by the prosecution.

Gallacher, 39, who has attended most of the hearings, appeared calm and confident. She described her husband as caring, kind and a wonderful father to their three children. The couple married in 2017.

Her testimony comes as the trial nears its end. The jury is likely to retire to consider a verdict on Tuesday.

Before the defence reached this stage, the court heard accounts from six women about alleged offences. These include an alleged rape between 1999 and 2009, the period when Brand rose to fame as a stand-up comedian and television presenter.

Brand, 51, has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He has said that although he used to be promiscuous, he always had consensual sex. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

The case now rests on how the jury weighs the evidence from the complainants against the defence account, including testimony such as Gallacher’s.

Gallacher said, “He is an amazing, attentive husband.”
